The holiday area Vesteregn is surrounded by series of natural pearls. Tryggelev Nor is located to the north of Vesteregn, after Salme Nor. Tryggelev Nor, a coastal lagoon, is home and resting place to many rare species of birds. The region is a nature reserve under the Bird Protection Directive. The impressive reserve will be expanded from 100 hectares to 189 hectares with re-concession of Nørreballe Nor. Now, the area with lakes, reed lakes, meadows, bushes and small forests is one of the richest birdlife- wetlands of Denmark. The rich nature and the birds of the region are protected by the Birds and Habitats Directives of the European Union. Therefore it has been developed to be one of the best nature areas of the EU. You can drive towards the south to the cosy fishing town of Bagenkop with a large marina. First, you reach Kise Nor, where you can enjoy the view of the wild horses grazing. The grazing area ensures a varied flora, the source of food for various animals and birds.
